As I walked into the path, I spotted her. She was so beautiful. The colors and petals made me think of my Red Velvet image I took several years ago. She was different. A bigger dahlia than I'm used to photographing, It would be challenging to capture her true essence while in the field. I asked Estefania of FloristaFarm if I could purchase her, and she graciously gave me this beautiful flower.
As I looked outside, I noticed the light had that September glow...It's September, after all :) I needed to get out soon if I was going to get the best light.
I had to get creative to capture the beauty of this red dahlia. It is much bigger than Red Velvet, she has a full skirt and is long. I knew I would need to experiment with several lenses to find the perfect one. Nothing I tried gave me what I was looking for; in the end, my macro gave me that painterly bokeh and was the best choice to capture the petals, I had so much fun, but I had to work for it.
Sharing the magic, I see,
